Guizhou province held a conference on Jan 4, the first working day of the year, to promote high-quality development among business entities, signaling a strong commitment to optimizing the business environment and boosting market vitality. Following the meeting, Qiu Jun, director of the Guiyang bureau of industry and information technology, was interviewed about the city's industrial achievements and 2026 plans.
Reflecting on the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25), Qiu highlighted Guiyang's strong industrial performance, with total industrial output surpassing 500 billion yuan ($70 billion), contributing over 30 percent to the city's economic growth and provincial industrial growth.
Guiyang will focus on six strategic industrial clusters in 2026, using projects to drive coordinated enterprise development and cluster-scale advancement.
The first priority is expanding the advanced equipment manufacturing cluster. Anchored by major automakers Geely and Chery, Guiyang will accelerate vehicle production, strengthen local auto parts supply chains, and grow the new energy vehicle sector. Key aerospace projects, including the AVIC heavy machinery base and enhancements at Anda Aerospace, aim to build a backup base for critical components.
The second focus is the intelligent and digital industrial cluster. Guiyang will grow smart device and server manufacturing, advanced chips, electronic components, and circuit boards, and foster emerging sectors such as sensors and smart home products.
The third priority is the deep processing of mineral resources to strengthen clusters around phosphorus, aluminum, and related products. Efforts in phosphorus include mining, basic chemicals, new fertilizers, by-product utilization, and solid waste management.
The city will expand its new energy and advanced materials cluster. Supporting leading enterprises such as CATL and BYD, it will build a full-chain circular system for energy storage batteries, scale distributed wind and photovoltaic power, and advance hydropower storage projects to increase green energy usage.
Guiyang will grow its distinctive light-industrial cluster, which includes premium coffee, craft beer, refined dining, and cultural-creative products, integrating the food and tourism sectors.
The city will also develop emerging and future industries, with a focus on low-altitude manufacturing, intelligent driving, AI terminals, and embodied intelligence technologies.
