Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area in Southwest China's Guizhou province are accelerating the development of their new energy vehicle (NEV) industry, forming a dual-track model focused on both commercial and passenger vehicles.

As a key national energy base, Guizhou has been advancing its "Electric Guizhou" initiative by expanding the "power battery + energy storage battery" sector and fostering the growth of NEVs. The region is quickly building a robust industrial ecosystem for new energy technologies.

After years of development, Guiyang and Gui'an have established a relatively complete NEV industry chain. The sector includes core components such as complete vehicle manufacturing, parts production, and aftermarket services. Leading players include Geely Auto, Fudi Guizhou (a BYD subsidiary), CATL (power batteries), Geely Powertrain, and AVIC Guizhou Guihang Automotive Components Co (automotive electronics).

In the commercial vehicle segment, Chery's Guizhou base has helped diversify local production lines to include electric buses, heavy-duty trucks, and urban light trucks. In 2024, the output value of commercial NEVs in Guiyang and Gui'an reached 1.39 billion yuan ($193.86 million), with a local parts supply rate of 18 percent.

In the passenger vehicle sector, Geely Auto and over 40 local suppliers have formed an industrial ecosystem with an output value of 18.3 billion yuan and a local supply rate of 48 percent. Major models include methanol-powered vehicles, mid-to-large fuel SUVs, and pure electric SUVs.
