On July 11, the Gui'an power supply bureau launched an electricity meter upgrade project covering industrial parks and residential communities in Gui'an New Area, aiming to address electricity access challenges and reduce energy costs.

In 2024, Gui'an became the first city in Guizhou to introduce the Implementation Plan for Power Meter Upgrades in Industrial Parks, piloting a "one enterprise, one meter" model in the Gui'an Comprehensive Bonded Zone. This marked a break from the traditional "one meter per park" model, cutting power costs for businesses by over 30 percent and setting the stage for broader implementation.

"This year, we're focusing on upgrades in four industrial parks and 31 residential communities," said Li Qiang, an expansion manager at Gui'an power supply bureau. The project will cover areas such as the High-end Equipment Manufacturing Park, Big Data Incubation Park, and Longshan Industrial Park, as well as public rental and relocation housing estates, involving over 18,000 electricity meters.

The reform is expected to slash electricity costs by up to 70 percent in high-demand parks and reduce average power bills for residents and merchants by 20 percent.

Gui'an power supply bureau has allocated 15 million yuan ($2.1 million) this year. All residential community upgrades are scheduled for completion by the end of the third quarter.
