The new energy vehicle (NEV) sector in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, is gaining significant momentum, with homegrown automakers and suppliers driving innovation, production capacity, and exports.
At Changjiang Auto's industrial park in Gui'an New Area, electric heavy-duty trucks undergo rigorous rain tests to ensure their durability and waterproof integrity. The company's second-generation Guizhou-branded trucks, powered by dual-motor systems with a peak output of 510 Kilowatts, boast a 50 percent improvement in hill-climbing capability, addressing the challenge of heavy transport in mountainous terrain.
As the only heavy truck brand named after a province outside Beijing, Guizhou-produced trucks are rapidly evolving, with a development cycle of just six months. Backed by advanced facilities – including four major production lines and Guizhou's largest commercial NEV research and development lab – Changjiang Auto collaborates with key local suppliers such as CATL and Guizhou Tyre to build robust, full-chain manufacturing.

Changjiang Auto's third-generation prototype NEV truck recently completed high-intensity testing and is set for commercial release in July.
NEV success is also emerging in niche markets. At Guizhou Zhonghui Heavy Industry Co, 15 new electric golf carts are bound for Russia. With a focus on customized solutions – like battery heating for cold climates – Zhonghui has secured 800 orders this year alone. Their 40+ models are now exported to over 20 countries, including the US, Europe, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.
Guiyang has also become a key NEV manufacturing hub with the success of the Galaxy E5 – Geely's first pure electric SUV produced on its GEA global platform. Since its launch in August 2024, the model has sold over 140,000 units. With a line rate of 45 vehicles per hour, the Geely Guiyang plant has attracted 43 upstream suppliers, forming a comprehensive industrial ecosystem.
