Guiyang and Gui'an boost digital economy for high-quality growth

The digital economy has become a key driver of high-quality development in Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area, accelerating the region's shift from scale and speed to quality and efficiency.

Guiyang and Gui'an introduced 23 data (intelligent computing) centers in 2024, with computing capacity reaching 53.12 Eflops – double the capacity recorded at the end of 2023. The region has become one of China’s most advanced hubs for domestically developed intelligent computing capabilities.

The region utilized digital technology to empower the real economy, fostered emerging digital industries, and witnessed rapid growth in the digital sector. This led to the electronic information manufacturing, software, and IT services industries exceeding a combined output value of 130 billion yuan.

Guiyang and Gui'an focused on five key areas – chips, components, circuit boards, devices, and equipment – adopting an industrial chain approach to drive high-quality economic development in the electronic information manufacturing sector.

The sector's output value grew 24.9 percent year-on-year, accounting for 10.5 percent of the total industrial output above the designated size, with an added value of 32.48 billion yuan, up 22.2 percent from the previous year.

In software and IT services, Guiyang and Gui'an prioritized the development of cloud services, information innovation, and data element circulation under the "one core, two specialties" strategy. The region expanded its foundational, industrial, embedded, and application software industries, enhancing the sector's structure and scale.

Guiyang Big Data Sci-Tech Innovation City is a crucial platform for developing the software and IT services industries. It has attracted 1,355 enterprises, including 806 big data enterprises, accounting for approximately 60 percent of the total.
