This winter, the Ice and Snow World in Harbin – capital of Northwest China's Heilongjiang province – has become the most popular tourist destination in the country. Sightseeing buses shuttle visitors from all over the country every day. Some of these new-energy sightseeing buses are produced in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province.

"The Ice and Snow World scenic area made its first purchase from us, totaling seven new energy sightseeing buses, and they are now interested in placing another order," said Wang Youlong, general manager of Guizhou Zhonghui Vehicle Manufacturing Co (Zhonghui Co).

Specializing in the production of sightseeing trains, small trains, vintage campus buses, cartoon vehicles, and waste collection vehicles, Zhonghui Co sold a total of 2,000 vehicles in 2023, with new energy vehicles accounting for 66 percent. The company achieved a total output value of 150 million yuan ($20.90 million) in 2023, representing a year-on-year growth of 67 percent.

In recent years, Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area have accelerated the development of the new energy vehicle and battery materials industries. In order to build a comprehensive industrial cluster, Guiyang and Gui'an have introduced a batch of leading enterprises along the industrial chain, such as CATL, BYD Auto, Guizhou Geely Auto, and Enneagon Energy Co.

Data indicates that in the first 11 months of 2023, the added value of the new energy vehicle industry above designated size grew by 25.4 percent in Guiyang and Gui'an.

As the market for new energy vehicles continues to thrive, Guiyang and Gui'an have been intensifying the construction of new energy charging facilities. These efforts aim to facilitate community travel and further meet growing demand for such facilities.

To date, Guiyang has deployed 535 charging piles, achieving full coverage of new energy vehicle charging piles in 73 towns and townships in Guiyang. In Gui'an, more than 250 charging piles provide coverage in densely populated areas such as Huaxi University City, the Gui'an High-speed Railway Station, and the Gui'an High-end Equipment Manufacturing Industrial Park.
