The city of Guiyang in Southwest China's Guizhou province has made marked progress in its development of industrial clusters – with the Aero-engine Equipment Manufacturing Cluster in the Baiyun district of Guiyang chosen as one of the national characteristic industrial clusters for small and medium-sized enterprises in 2022.

The selection was announced by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in Beijing.

In 2021, the total output value of the cluster came in at 18.46 billion yuan ($2.67 billion), generated by 63 enterprises - including advanced equipment manufacturing enterprises AECC Guizhou Liyang Aviation Power Co, Guizhou Aviation Technical Development Co and Guizhou Yaguang Electronic Technology Co. There were nine national-level specialized and new "little giant" enterprises that contributed.

Based on their characteristics of having local resources and industrial foundations, the cluster guides small and medium-sized enterprises to develop themselves intensively in leading sectors – as well as to expand their innovative resources and promote the modernization of the industry supply chain.

To date, the cluster has formed an entire industry production and supply chain covering complete aero-engines, engine blades, aviation precision parts, high-end precision metal alloy ring forgings, bolts, fasteners and other products.

Moreover, it has guided its enterprises to cultivate nine provincial-level and above innovation platforms, such as enterprise technology centers and industrial design centers.

It has boosted the commercialization of sci-tech advances and achievements and trading centers, carried out 65 technological breakthroughs and achievement applications transformation projects, and overseen the registering of 461 core patents.
